Today’s Scripture Reading: But Jesus' priestly work far surpasses what these other priests do, since he's working from a far better plan. If the first plan—the old covenant—had worked out, a second wouldn't have been needed. But we know the first was found wanting, because God said,
By coming up with a new plan, a new covenant between God and his people, God put the old plan on the shelf. And there it stays, gathering dust. Hebrews 8:6-13 (Message Bible) There is a great fascination with humans wanting not just to be God but to control God. Even some of the books in the Christian bookstore seem geared more towards controlling God than inspiring our faith-journey. And there are books that teach about God. But knowing about God is not the same thing as knowing God, having a personal relationship with God, being on a first-name basis with God. Today’s passage says God will carve it into the lining of our hearts. We won’t go to school to learn about God, or buy a book called God in Five Easy Lessons. We’ll get to know God firsthand. Do you know about God? Or do you know God intimately in the way that God knows you? Amen!
